R1 St Patrick’s 14C - 3 All/115 (33) vs. Illawong-Menai 2 8/178 (50) Loss
St Pats won the toss and decided to bat on a newly laid wicket. The team batted aggressively, dominating the bowlers and while scoring quickly, were all out in the 33rd over for 115. A number of players made encouraging starts however Sean (10), Callum (20) and Michael P (29) were the only players to reach double figures. The opposition bowling was controlled and accurate with very few sundries. Two excellent catches, one on the boundary and the other a finger tip diving effort, did not help the team cause. A collapse saw the lost of 5 wickets for 27 runs. The opposition had to bat out 40 minutes and lost both openers to good bowling from Mark 1/7 (6) and Sean 1/14 (7) for 14 off 10 overs before stumps.
Week 2 was a close affair and the opposition slowly building their innings reaching St Pats total in the 39 over thanks to a 54 no from D Besz who did not expose the opposition tail to our bowlers. Luck was not on the team side with some close calls and dropped catches. In the last 10 overs Illawong-Menai went for their shots testing our fielding which mainly withstood the barrage against attacking field placements. On the encouraging side our bowlers showed promise with eight of our eleven bowlers taking wickets. We have an abundance of wicket keepers thanks to James, Callum and Reece. Michael Pugh directed the team well in the field as captain.
