Round1 St Pats 16A's (10 / 109) defeated by Caringbah (10 / 119 and 4 / 45)
In the President's Cup last season, the SSJCA team was made up of a great bunch on fine young cannibals - a few from St Pats, a few from Caringbah. When those two teams met in Round 1 at Waratah, there was a range of familiar faces....a friendly social match of sorts was assured. Well....it did not happen!!
St Pats won the toss and sent Caringbah in to bat, and they did! Despite the odd duck the opposition (that is what they should be called from now on) steadily increased their run tally from the start, and kept it going until the 59th over when at 119 runs they said enough was enough. Agree! St Pats were careful - Nick Panich (3 for 19 in 11) lead the charge, sundries were low and there were more maidens than at a B & S Ball, but the opposition made a go of it!
With St Pats at the crease, the runs came thick and fast from the first over, and stopped just as quickly somewhere soon after. Dave Mifsud belted a healthy 21 and Shane Smith added a quick 19 soon after, with Brendan Drury a sweet 16 after that. The seasons must have changed and duck-hunting became popular, and the last bird fell at 109 runs.
With the opposition back at the crease for their second innings (wasn't one innings enough??) they had the audacity to tally 45 runs in just 12 overs, with the loss of 4 wickets. Dave Mifsud claimed three of those!
Hope we get a better opposition next match!
